Back in action

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Sorry for not posting, I spent very little time on line last week.  My friend, Terri, who I have not seen in person in over 10 years, came to visit me last week.  We had a great week wandering around town.  We went to the Newberry Book sale, Chinatown, Boy’s town, and many of the old haunts.

This week I am back to work.  Please check out the brand new blog for YarnCon:  http://www.yarncon.blogspot.com/

Now to catch up on some work!

Yarn-Con
We’re taking vendor applications now for the 1st annual YarnCon! You can email the information to info@yarnygoodness.com or mail a paper copy to the address provided on the application.

What is this all about you ask? Sara and I wanted a yarn show for Chicago. We’ve been long inspired by the great DIY and crafty shows that go on in Chicago, but we’ve longed for more in the yarn category. So, we’re bringing that to Chicago ourselves. The first ever YarnCon will take place at the Pulaski Park Field House on October 13, 2007 from 10am to 4pm.

What a day

Today has been a series of ups and downs.  This morning the delivery I thought I would have to wait all day for showed up early, in the morning even!  That was an up.  I decided to install my new printer, since my old one has finally quit after many years of fine service.  I moved a few things around, made space for the new printer, and it actually fits, so I don’t need another piece of furniture (up), I followed the instructions, and plugged in the printer.  The UPS made a beep, and my computer stopped talking to me (down).  I unplugged things, I replugged things, I turned it off, and I turned it on, and started over again, and still nothing (very down).  I needed to ship a ring today, so instead of printing out my postage, I wrote up the address, and went to the post office to mail it, turning the power off all the way (yeah, my computer has 2 on/off switches) on my way out.  I grumbled and stomped and was generally in a small panic.

When I got home, I decided to take a chance and turn the computer back on, and I’ll be damned, the thing came back up like it was no big deal.  (up!).

Whew!  Ok, I guess it was more ups than downs, but each try of getting the computer to turn on felt like its own horrible down, hence the series I guess.

I was even able to spend much of the afternoon carving the next knitting needle top, and started on a shawl pin.  Wow!  Now I am tired, but content, and off to attempt to make some pesto with the basil from the CSA.  yum!

Told you I’d be back

Ok, I’m not good at the subject lines. Eh. Today, at long last I was able to sit at my bench and work! Amazing, I know. Technically, I am not done moving everything into the studio, but I had to go downtown to pick up some castings, and I thought it was a good opportunity to get some carving done, and get something in for casting, since I had to be there anyway. I am working on a new line of goodies for knitters and hookers. The first ones I am working on are for the knitters, but there will be jewelry to wear on knit and crocheted pieces down the line as well. Dear Hookers, please let me know what doodads you guys use, and I’ll work on those too. So far my only idea is to make pretty little toppers for the hooks, just like I am doing for the knitting needles.

Want to take a peek at the first item I have carved for this new line? You’ll be shocked!

Coming soon, skully knitting needles!

Ha! Just kidding, of course you are not shocked.

Once I had started carving, I could not believe I had ever let anything get in the way of doing this!  I could have sat there all day carving away, it was great.  I love carving when I can just go at it with a vague plan, when it comes together, it is like magic.  Oh benchy, I’ll never leave you again.

craziness

I’ve been running around like crazy, but I have no complaints, other than I still wish for free time. I need to take new pictures of the back yard, the tomato plants are doing very well, in fact everything is. I’ve also finally put some nice perennials that flower all summer in the front yard where the tulips bloom. Hardy stuff that will start to come up and flower as the tulips are dying off. I’ll have to check the tags in order to tell you the names, one is I think Scapia, or pincushion, other other has “tick” in its name. Really helpful, eh? Well, they look nice. I bought them in Marengo, IL during my outing with Sara on Saturday to The Fold.

The Fold

This place is a yarn lovers heaven of a store. So many wheel and spindles, cards and niddy noddies, oh my! More roving than you can spin a wheel at (sorry), and the yarn! So much yarn!

The Fold

I came home with some sample packs of dye, and ingeo and yak rovings.  The Ingeo is made of corn, and the yak is made of …yak, of course.

I have more fun things to chat about, so I will be back soon this time.  It’s late, and knitting calls.
